Citric acid monohydrate
E 330

Citric acid monohydrate is used in the production of animal feed and fertilizers. In animal feed, it increases the absorption of minerals and also improves and enhances the flavor of the feed. In fertilizer production, it is used to regulate pH. It also effectively lowers the pH of water used for agricultural spraying.

Citric acid is a popular ingredient in condiments, beverages, sweets, salads, and many other products. It is a natural acidifying substance. It not only positively impacts the flavor of a product but also improves its shelf life, extends its shelf life, and helps preserve its color. Citric acid acts as an acidity regulator and antioxidant. It can be found on food labels under the name E330.

Furthermore, citric acid is used in the production of paper, chemicals, detergents, cleaning agents, and construction products.

Use:

  • antioxidant – thanks to its antioxidant properties, adding citric acid in small concentrations stops or delays the oxidation processes of substances, thus extending the shelf life of products.

  • acidity regulator – regulates the pH of various types of products; it is added as an acidifying agent.

  • chelating agent – citric acid forms complexes with metals: iron, cobalt, copper, nickel, calcium, strontium, zinc and manganese; by binding calcium and influencing the composition of casein micelles in milk, it prevents gelation of condensed milk.

  • preservative - Citrate ions form salts with many metals, generally called citrates. One of the most important is calcium citrate, also known as "acid salt," which preserves food products.
